Pope or Dope

So the pope, the 16th Benedikt, is expected to apologize.
What for, exactly?

For citing some ancient guy, stating something - namely that the Islam is a religion not only condoning but also encuraging violence against non-believers - which is either a fact or not.

If it's not a fact, where do jihad and all those fundamentalist suicide bombers get their righteous cause from. Why won't those religious leaders now shouting angrily denounce them openly.

On the other hand, if it's true, what should that guy apologize for.
Please, excuse me, I'm real sorry for saying the truth!

Looks like a no win situation for the muslimic faith to me. At least from where I'm sitting. But I'm still capable of logical thought processes. Which might be a reason I'm not to fond of the catholic church, either.

Sorry, Mr Ratzinger, but none-the-less, there's no need for an excuse.

Contracts, treaties, resolutions

Current events:
Obviously one shouldn't consider treaties or contracts involving Israel sacrosanct. More like gambling against the odds. Anybody knows how many treaties were broken or UN-Resolutions ignored by Israel. I don't. And in reality i won't care.

On the other side, history showed it is equally impossible to get treaties or resolutions to work with (in this case) islamic fundamentalists.

It's the same with all kind of fundamentalists, wheter islamic, mosaic, democratic (an oxymoron, I know, but just look at G.W. Bush's justification for waging war. OTOH, Bush is rather obviously a moron).
Main problem all those morons (read: fundamentalists) never care about the victims.

So, what am I rambling about. Well, I don't understand why anybody even tries.

Let's put a wall around the whole country of Israel - but this time according to the original UN-Resolutions defining the territory of Israel. It's obviously the solution wanted by the populace of Israel, since they already started it. But let's not include occupied territories - that wouldn't be in accordance with international law.

Let's create a half mile death zone on both sides of the wall. Nobody crosses that border - and there are no exceptions. If the people of Israel want to live inside a ghetto ...

Concerning long range weapons: This seems like a rather awkward problem. But there are a host of possibly solutions. Starting with a mercenary peace corps - the kind that uses reciprocal force like currently defined by IDF, USMC or in the past, Waffen-SS. Ending with tactical nuking launch sites within minutes of launch.

After a couple of decades nobody will know about those problems anymore.

Airplane Security

Looks like no more in-flight working for me. Well, it's about time to remember trains. At least on the old continent.

Next step in airplane security: Put all passengers to sleep before boarding, no luggage at all, and maybe it would be best not to transport humans at all...

On a more serious note: Can somebody explain to me in clear words where in the koran the killing of innocents is described as a good deed.

It's rather funny in a hellish sort of way that any kind of suicide killing mission is considered something called a sin according to those holy books of all those major monotheistic religions.

BTW, who's god is the god of Abraham? Jewish, christian, muslimic? Someone please write the long overdue book: "GOD for DUMMIES"

And I thought ...

... those Nazis were bad?

But those US troops run a very close second!

(War) Crimes confirmed?

On a short note:

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz states on its web-site in the article titled "Livni: Qana attack led to turning point in support for Israel" that
As the Israel Air Force continues to investigate the air strike, questions have been raised over military accounts of the incident.

It now appears that the military had no information on rockets launched from the site of the building, or the presence of Hezbollah men at the time.

The Israel Defense Forces had said after the deadly air-strike that many rockets had been launched from Qana. However, it changed its version on Monday.

Should be enough for a court martial.

What does the US state department state - pardon the pun - if offensive (at least to muslims) cartoons are published about the prophet Mohammed:
"While we share the offense that Muslims have taken at these images, we at the same time vigorously defend the right of individuals to express points of view . . . Freedom of expression is at the core of our democracy, and it is something that we have shed blood and treasure around the world to defend, and we will continue to do so."

The same department about cartoons depicting the secretary of state C. Rice - also in a way which could be deemed inappropriate or offensive:
"We encourage development of a free press but along with those freedoms come certain responsibilities, Secretary Rice is focused on doing her job. She knows that the United States is doing the right thing."

Personally, I don't find any of those Mohammed cartoons offensive. So I can't really understand that - orchestrated - outrage of the muslim world.
The Rice cartoon is rather amusing.

But then, I'm probably just completely and utterly insensitive.

Terrorism? Yes!

The linked article isn't a rant. It just get's me going.
Read it!

Pay notice to the paragraph claiming death tools: 800 dead civilians in Lebanon, 19 in Israel. I have no way to verify the data, but even if we accept a bt of exaggeration a ratio of 20-to-1 or even only 10-to-1 would sound rather extreme, wouldn't it?

While I believe even one on either side would be one to many, I'd just have to ask:
Who's the terrorist here?

Wikipedia: Terrorism refers to a strategy of using violence, or threat of violence to generate fear, cause disruption, and ultimately, to bring about compliance with specific political, religious, ideological, and personal demands.

Informational change in the blog!

Since I believe everyone should have access to information I added two news-feeds to the sidebar.

One shows the five most recent additions to the "Electronic Intifada". Since I don't want to be onesided, above it you'll find a ticker showing the headlines from the "Jerusalem Post".

Let's hope they won't start throwing letters at each other on this site.

To do the right thing

So, who's right? Who's wrong? Who is for and who's against the law?

Whatever that law might be. In the end it boils down to what someone believes in.

Well, I believe in no god. Obviously. Because if there were a higher being allowing or even furthering those terrible things happing not only in the middle east but almost on the whole planet, I think it would be anyone's most sacred duty to fight that being.

Obviously it's better not to believe.

I'm certainly not antisemitic. I'm not anti-anyone. To be complete honest I have a real problem even understanding the concept. Since there are no human races, in my opinion it's not possible to be a racist. It's only possible to be a complete and utter moron.

Though, most certainly I'm misanthropic. Definitly so. I consider it my right to call anyone an idiot or worse, not matter what colour his or her skin has. Or what god one believes in.

But, and that's what I am convinced is the most important thing.
Just because something bad - even horrible - happened in the past to someone (personally, a relative, a friend, or some far removed ancestor), doesn't give that person - or some relatives, or a group feeling somehow connected to said person - the right to do bad things to other persons. That's not revenge, that's not justice, and it certainly isn't a right or a crusade ordered by god!

I do not know what is right. I'm not conceited enough to feel that way. But I do know what's wrong.

Hurting children. Killing the helpless. Torturing anyone.

So stop it!

Israeli Defence Forces and the Waffen-SS

Somebody care to explain the difference? 'Cause I really can't see any!
The Waffen-SS was rightfully accused and condemed for war crimes and multiple murder.
And the IDF is just doing what, exactly?

What's the crucial difference between the Warsaw Ghetto Massacre and the israeli conduct against innocent people only being guilty of living in Palestine?

In the Nuremberg trials those responsible for the atrocities of the Nazi goverment where tried, condemned and executed. At least those who didn't escape before that or take a cowards way out.
When are the Haifa trials scheduled?

On a more general note, and yes, this is a rant!
As an Austrian I've already been told that Austria can't claim to having been occupied by the Third Reich because there was no real attempt to fight the occupation forces. Well, so if it's not Greater Germany but Israel, it's the other way round? Fighting the occupation is a must in one instance, and a crime in another?

In my very personal opinion the state Israel has a very unhealty resemblance to the Third Reich's spiritual heir!

So, who can spell "war crime"?

The Da Vinci Code

Well, that film now hit Austria!

And I didn't go to see it! And I most certainly won't!

No! No! No! to all you bible-thumbers and hipocrites. It's not because I agree with you.
It's just so that I read the book literally years ago. Liked it. Can't imagine I'd like the film. My mind now got a different image of those main characters than the actors look like. So I won't go look at them.

But, to all those morons out there:

It is still only FICTION!

... it even says so on the book cover! If you'd been to most of those places mentioned in the book, you'd even see those small discrepancies.

So what!
It's a good book, and I enjoyed it.
But still fiction, so why the riot?
